Westport Marina on Lake Norman NC with New Web Design from Charlotte's The Idea People

The Idea People are excited to announce that we have designed and launched a new website for Westport Marina on Lake Norman!  “Westport Marina is one of the oldest Lake Norman marinas and has some really unique offerings that are unavailable from other Lake Norman marinas,” said Jay Joyce, president of The Idea People.  “Our driving force with design and navigation with their new website was the ease of access to the services that really differentiate their marina.”

Web Design Tactics for Marina Website

  • Showcase their full-service offerings.  The new web design for Westport Marina required multiple service offerings to be included on every page of the website.  “We elected to create a slate of right-side widgets that could easily be moved or assigned from their backend administration console,” said Joyce.  “These widgets are a key component of the overall page design and user navigation experience.”
  • Current weather and lake information.  One of the most frequently asked questions that the team at Westport Marina receives is about the weather and the lake temperature and water level.  “Our design solution was to create a permanent navigation page for Lake Norman weather and lake conditions that would be easy for the user to find and use,” adds Joyce.
  • Clean creative design with a focus on content.  Marina website users desire quick access to the information they need for lake trip planning, boat service, or boat rentals.  “Our creative design approach was to give the user a positive experience that the Westport Marina website portrays professionalism, longevity in business on the lake and feels like a reliable and fun place to visit,” says Joyce.

As we reviewed national marina web design best practices, we noticed that quick and easy access to key features that the marina offered was the top best practice.  “Our research revealed that core marina users relied on their marina for boat storage, boat service, boat refueling and recreational boat rentals,” said Joyce.  “Those user trends fit nicely with the overall web design strategy that Westport Marina and The Idea People initially uncovered.”

The next step in the Westport Marina web front is the design of their new mobile website.  “Their business goal is to emerge as the leading Lake Norman marina,” said Joyce.  “And that includes providing their on-lake customers with quick access to items like the current gas price, snack shack specials and available boat rentals via a mobile platform.”
